迈克·尼科尔斯执导的一部黑色反战喜剧片。描述二次世界大战期间，驻扎在地中海的一个美国空军基地，有很多官兵想法逃避飞行任务及获得不法之财。本片是一部内容丰富的黑色反战喜剧，开始的片段拍得很有气派，但其后的发展却稍嫌混乱松散，未能贯穿主题。不过，有许多片段都拍得相当出色，而且娱乐性不低。。故事发生在腊月廿四，祭灶这一天。在做完祭灶准备后，馋嘴的小乎离想要偷吃祭拜灶神的灶糖，多次偷吃未果，被警告后依旧贼心不死，后被贴画中冒出的灶神吓到，了解到了祭灶由来与灶神的职责所在。。Whilst growing up in rural Thailand, a young orphan girl is taught the ways of magic by her grandmother.
